Revere Middle School Student Qualifies for Scripps National Spelling Bee

Revere Local Schools is proud to announce that Esther Lin, an eighth-grade student at Revere Middle School, has qualified for the 2026 Scripps National Spelling Bee after winning the 97th Akron Beacon Journal Regional Spelling Bee on March 15.

Esther competed against dozens of students from across the region at the competition, which was held at the Akron-Summit County Public Library’s Main Library in downtown Akron. She secured the championship by correctly spelling the word “nutation,” which means an oscillatory movement of the axis of a rotating body.

With this victory, Esther earned a trip to Washington, D.C., where she will represent Revere Local Schools and the region at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in late May.

According to reporting from the Akron Beacon Journal, Esther credited her preparation and study habits as key to her success. She also emphasized the importance of pacing during the competition, explaining that she prefers to work through words in manageable “chunks.”

“We are incredibly proud of Esther and the dedication she has shown throughout this process,” said Dr. Dan Oberhauser, principal of Revere Middle School. “Her achievement reflects not only her hard work and perseverance, but also the strong culture of learning we value at Revere Middle School. It is exciting to see one of our students advance to the national stage.”

“We are extremely proud of Esther and this outstanding accomplishment,” said Dan White, Superintendent of Revere Local Schools. “Her dedication, preparation, and perseverance are truly impressive. Esther represents our school district and community with excellence, and we look forward to cheering her on as she competes on the national stage.”

The Akron Beacon Journal Regional Spelling Bee serves as a qualifying event for the prestigious Scripps National Spelling Bee, which brings together top student spellers from across the United States and around the world each year in Washington, D.C.

Revere Local Schools congratulates Esther on this remarkable achievement and wishes her the best of luck at the Scripps National Spelling Bee this May.
